THE CORRECT ANSWER: Arabian Oryx Sanctuary National Park (Oman)
The Arabian Oryx Sanctuary is a major protected area located in the central desert of Oman, encompassing the rocky Jiddat al-Harasis plain. This iconic Middle Eastern site is famous for hosting the first-ever successful reintroduction of the Arabian oryx into the wild in the early 1980s, after the species had completely disappeared from the wild due to overhunting. In addition to this elegant white antelope with long straight horns, the sanctuary protects a very particular desert ecosystem subject to the coastal fogs of the Indian Ocean. This humidity allows the development of adapted endemic flora and supports other exceptional threatened species such as the mountain gazelle, the caracal, the ratel as well as the very rare Arabian leopard, making this territory a pioneering model for the conservation of desert fauna.
